iPad - How Would I Make It Better?

Let's see. I have been using Apple iPad well over a month now. I still concur with my initial impressions. The device is simply put great even though it has potential to become even greater. It's the perfect device for some casual browsing and media consumption.

As I have gotten more experience with the device, I have encountered a few more problem spots besides the ones mentioned in the original post. In this post I'm going to re-iterate the ones discovered earlier and discuss a few new ones. I will also provide some ideas to help fix them.

Note that I still consider myself an iPad newbie so some of these issues may or may not be so pertinent. I believe Apple won't even consider fixing some considering the way they do business.

Packt - Discount December on Python Books

Packt Publishing is offering a nice discount on its Python related books during this December (-20% for print, -30% for ebooks). That looks a pretty cool offer to me.

They have also released two books related to Python: Python 2.6 Graphics Cookbook and Python Text Processing with NLTK 2.0 Cookbook.

Whoa, that was a mouthful. Anyway if you are into graphics or natural language processing check out those books. I guess you ought to be able to write your own little Google or something like that using the latter book. :)

Apparently they'll be releasing a Python GIS book soon as well. That's definitely good news for the geo people. :)

Less Spartan Approach to JavaScript Key Handling

Let's face it. It's not fun to deal with keys in JavaScript. Each browser seems to have an idea of its own how it should work. In this post I'm going to show the way I deal with this madness.

I have split my solution in two parts: shortcuts and mixed events (ie. trigger some handler while both mouse button and some key is pressed). I will use a premade component for the former while I present a custom solution of my own for the latter. My solution is based on RightJS but it ought to be easy to translate the idea to other environments as well.

The iPad Apps That Truly Shook My World Vol. 2

Oh man, I have to pick a less pompous title for my next series. Anyway, here we go. :)

Previously I took a look primarily at utility applications. I have a couple of those in store for this part as well. I'll focus mainly on entertainment, though.

I probably need to move into a more focused format at some point. The main gist about these posts is just to highlight some applications I have found particularly interesting in one way or another.
